Thematic Axes

USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Refers to the management of water, soil, forests, wildlife, and biodiversity in the face of significant climate change. It seeks to adapt and modify conservation management to mitigate the impacts of climate change with a comprehensive approach to ensure a sustainable future in the face of environmental challenges.

GOVERNANCE AND ECONOMY

Integrates the policies, institutions, and practices of forest resource management that derive from this management. It seeks a balance between conservation and sustainable economic development.

FORESTRY EDUCATION

Forestry education is key to moving toward a sustainable future, so that forest resources are managed responsibly and communities are active players in environmental protection. This approach seeks to ensure that individuals and communities acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to understand, manage, and conserve forest resources sustainably.

COMMUNAL FOREST MANAGEMENT

Communal Forest Management is fundamental to the sustainable management of forest resources in their territory. It groups together people or communities that depend directly or indirectly on forest resources to meet their economic, social, and cultural needs based on their territory. Users are indigenous peoples who benefit from the ecosystem services provided by forests (such as forest carbon, water, climate regulation, soil protection, and biodiversity).

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

  • Contribute to the consolidation and integration of the Latin American forestry sector through an inter-institutional space and presence to promote the economic, ecological, and social benefits of applying silvicultural practices as a guarantee of sustainable management. This space establishes exchanges between sectoral stakeholders, supports the development of relevant policies, improves information systems, and fosters technical and university training, increasing the participation of all stakeholders in the forestry production chain.
  • Offer a space for exchange and discussion on advanced technology and methodologies for the planning, establishment, management, and administration of native and planted forests, as well as the correct and fair valuation of the products goods, and services that forests provide to society at large.
