IX Latin American Forestry Congress PERÚ 2025
“We all depend on forests: let’s manage Latin American forests responsibly”
MINISTERIAL RESOLUTION N° 0036-2025-MIDAGRI
Peru: Host of the IX Latin American Forestry Congress
“We all depend on forests: let’s manage Latin American forests responsibly”
In the context of global concern for environmental issues, Latin American forests play an important role in the development of their communities, the conservation of biodiversity, and climate maintenance, as approximately 22% of the world’s forests are located in Latin America and the Caribbean. South America is home to the largest block of tropical forest, in the Amazon basin, which encompasses an enormous diversity of species, habitats, and ecosystems. Furthermore, they are key to local and national economies, providing resources such as timber, food, medicine, and tourism, among others. They also represent a vital source of livelihood for many indigenous and rural communities, who depend on them for their cultural and economic survival, while contributing to social well-being by providing essential environmental services.
Against this backdrop, the National Forestry Chamber (CNF), the National Agrarian University of La Molina (UNALM), and the Association for Comprehensive Research and Development (AIDER) are organizing the prestigious IX Latin American Forestry Congress (CONFLAT), which will take place from November 19th to 21th of this year in the main auditorium of UNALM in Lima, Peru. The event is under the motto «We all depend on the forest: let’s manage Latin American forests responsibly.»
The vision of this major gathering is to contribute to the integration and consolidation of the forestry sector through the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and experiences that promote sustainability. This ninth edition will address four key themes: use of natural resources in the context of climate change, governance and economy, forestry education, and management of communal forests. It will also bring together key players from the business sector, authorities and public representatives, researchers, academics, and students.
CONFLAT is an initiative that originated in Peru in 1999. Since its first edition, it has been a key space for discussion and collaboration around sustainable forest development in the region. Countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina have hosted this important event, addressing crucial topics such as forest wealth, climate change, and the sustainability of natural resources. Throughout its history, the International Tropical Timber Organization has been very active, sponsoring several conferences.
